The White Lotus Season 4: Everything We Know About the Glamourous-and Probably Deadly-Trip to France
There are very few television shows that can make an obscenely expensive vacation look like the absolute last place on Earth I would want to be, but The White Lotus has perfected the art.
Beautiful hotels. Gorgeous scenery. Rich people behaving terribly. Secrets. Sex. Money. Resentment. And, because this is The White Lotus, the distinct possibility that somebody is going to end up dead before checkout.
And I have to admit: I'm excited.
Not Dexter excited. Let's not get carried away here. Dexter Morgan occupies his own level of excitement.
But definitely excited.
The White Lotus is Headed to France
After Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand, Season 4 is taking us to the French Rivera.
Filming began in April 2026, with production taking place primarily in Cannes, Saint Tropez, and Monaco, along with additional filming in Paris.
The official premise is deliciously simple: another collection of White Lotus guests and employees will collide over thecourse of one week.
Except the particular wek happens to take place during the Cannes Film Festival.
That changes everything.
instead of simply dealing with wealthy tourists, we may be entering a world populated by movie stars, directors, producers, artists, wannabe celebrities, industry insiders, and the people orbiting them.
In other words, Mike White has found himself an entirely new ecosystem of privileged people to trment.
Perfect.
Cannes Might Be the Perfect White Lotus Setting
The more I think about Cannes, the more obvious the choice becomes.
The White Lotus has always been fascinated with status.
Who has money?
Who has power?
Who thinks they have power?
Who desperately wants other people to believe they have pwpoer?
Now throw celebrity into the equation.
The Cannes Film Festival is practically built around image, prestige, exclusivity, competition, and being seen.
That gives The White Lotus an entirely different type of social hierarchy to tear apart.
Season 4 Will Explore Fame and Celebrity
Executive producer David Bernard has revealed one of the most interesting clues about the new season: Season 4 will explore art, fame, celebrity and the spiritual journey of being an artist.
Now THAT has my attention.
Every season of The White Lotus has had something larger simmering underneath the murder mystery.
Season 4 appears ready to ask what happens when creativity becomes tangled up with money, recognition, ego, ambition, and fame.
And knowing this show, nobody is going to come outnof that examination looking particularly healthy.
Laura Dern Has Checked In
One of the biggest reasons I'm interested in this season is Laura Dern.
Dern joined Season 4 after Helena Bonham Carter departed shortly after production began. HBO explained that the character originally created for Bonham Carter wasn't working once filming started, and Mike White utilmately reworked the role.
Honestly?
Laura Dern in The White Lotus makes perfect sense.
She can be funny, intimidating, vulnerable, chaotic, sophisticated, and completely unhinged depending on what a role requires.
Give that woman a luxury hotel, a complicated character, and some rich-person emotional problems and let her WORK.

This Cast is Abolutely Stacked
And Laura Dern is nowhere near the only recognizable name checking in.
The Season 4 ensemble includes actors such as Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Chris Messina, Alexander Ludwig, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, Ari Graynor, Nadia Tereszkiewicz, Max Greenfield, Heather Graham, Rosie Perez, Ben Kingsley, Max Minghella, Sandra Bernhard, and Frida Gustavsson, among many others.
That's a LOT of personalities.
And with The White Lotus, casting is half the fun because we usually don't know immediately who is going to be horrible, sympathetic, secretly terrifying-or dead.
Sometimes, they're all four.
The Hotels Are Ridiculous-in the Best Possible Way
Naturtally, Mike White did not send these people to a Holiday Inn.
One of the primary filming locations is Chateau de la Messardiere in Saint Tropez, a lavish 19th century property that will become the fictional White Lotus du Cap.
Another major location is Cannes' famous Hotel Martinez, which will become the White Lotus Cannes.
The show will therefore have at least two spectacular luxury environments to play with.
And visually, I expect this season to be gorgeous.
The White Lotus has always understood something important: if you're going to watch rich people destroy their lives, they might as well do it somewhere breathtaking.
Cannes Gives Mike White a Whole New Type of Rich Person
This may be what excites me most.
We've already met wealthy families, newlyweds, businessmen, influencers, socialites, and people searching for some form of spiritual enlightenment.
But the entertainment industry?
That's fresh territory.
Imagine an aging movie star terrified of becoming irrelevant.
A young actress desperate for her breakthrough.
A director convinced he's a genius.
A wealthy producer financing somebody else's dream.
A celebrity couple whose relationship exists largely for publicity.
An artist who claims not to care about fame while obsessively checking whether people recognize them.
I don't know whether any of those characters actually exist this season.
But you KNOW this is the playground Mike White has created.
Expect the Usual Class Warfare
No matter where The White Lotus goes, one thing remains constant: the guests may believe they're the center of the universe, but the employees are watching everything.
That's one of my favorite elements of the show.
The luxury exists because someone else is working to maintain it.
The guests arrive carrying their emotional baggage, make unreasonable demands, treat the resort like thier personal kingdom, and then leave.
The employees remain.
With Cannes bringing celebrities and powerful entertainment industry figures into the equation, that imbalance could becomes even more interesting.

And Yes, We're Probably Getting Death
This is The White Lotus.
Somebody's vacation is almost certainly going very, very badly.
The series loves giving us paradise and immediately placing something sinister underneath it.
That's part of what makes the show so addictive.
You aren't simply wondering who these people are.
You're wondering:
Which one of you is going to die?
And sometimes:
Which one of you is going to kill them?
Season 4 May Feel Different From the First Three Seasons
Mike White has previously talked about wanting to move somewhat beyond the familiar imagery of crashing waves and tropical resorts.
Cannes gives him that opportunity.
Executive producer David Bernard has also indicated that the city itself and the glamour of the festival will become part of the show's visual identity, while the season will pay tribute to the history of French cinema.
That could make Season 4 feel less like another luxury beach vacation and more like an exploration of celebrity culture wrapped inside a murder mystery.
I'm completely fine with that.
Actually, I think the show needs it.
When Does The White Lotus Season 4 Premiere?
Here's the annoying part.
As of October 2026, HBO has not announced an official premiere date for Season 4.
Filming began in spring 2026, so production is well underway, but until HBO gives us an actual date, anything more specific is speculation.
So for now, we wait.
And judge rich fictional people from the comfort of our couches.
As nature intended.
I'm Officially Ready to CHeck Back Ino the White Lotus
I didn't necessarily need another television show to anticipate because Dexter: Resurrection already owns a substantial amount of real estate in my brain.
But The White Lotus Season 4 has officially gotten my attention.
France.
Cannes.
Movie stars.
Celebrity culture.
Ridiculous wealth.
Laura Dern.
Beautiful hotels.
People behaving terribly.
And an excellent chance that somebody isn't making it through the vacation alive.
Yeah.
I'll be checking in.
Just don't give me the room next to whoever Mike White plans on killing.
